About English for Work  

English for Work is a free program for immigrants and refugees to prepare for employment in the United States and improve their English language skills.  

Students learn about resumes, job search, interviewing, and the U.S. workplace while developing English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.  

This program is best for those with intermediate and advanced level English (see our Guide for Identifying English Level).  

Fall 2024 Information 

Orientations will be on Zoom on Tuesday, September 17 and Wednesday, September 18. Orientations are approximately two hours long. Morning and evening options are available. Attending orientation is required for enrollment.  

Classes are September 30-December 13 and are held two days pers week online via Zoom. See below for class schedule options.

In addition to online classes, there are supplemental in-person classes offered at Rainier Beach Branch – Seattle Public Library, Hopelink Shoreline, and Hopelink Redmond. These in-person classes are only available for students who are enrolled in the Zoom classes.   

Eligibility

To enroll in English for Work students must:  

  • Be 18 years or older 
  • Plan to get a job in the U.S. or enroll in job training/college to prepare to get a job (within the next 6 months) 
  • not have a B-1, B-2, F-1, J-1, or M-1 visa 
  • live in north and east King County (for example, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, Shoreline) or in the city of Seattle. Newly arrived refugees living in surrounding areas are welcome to apply for the program.
